  • Hillbilly Elegy : A Memoir Of A Family And Culture In Crisis

    $17.99

From a former marine and Yale Law School graduate, a powerful account of growing up in a poor Rust Belt town that offers a broader, probing look at the struggles of America’s white working class.

Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis–that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over forty years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm, but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

The Vance family story begins hopefully in postwar America. J. D.’s grandparents were “dirt poor and in love,” and moved north from Kentucky’s Appalachia region to Ohio in the hopes of escaping the dreadful poverty around them. They raised a middle-class family, and eventually their grandchild (the author) would graduate from Yale Law School, a conventional marker of their success in achieving generational upward mobility.

But as the family saga of Hillbilly Elegy plays out, we learn that this is only the short, superficial version. Vance’s grandparents, aunt, uncle, sister, and, most of all, his mother, struggled profoundly with the demands of their new middle-class life, and were never able to fully escape the legacy of abuse, alcoholism, poverty, and trauma so characteristic of their part of America. Vance piercingly shows how he himself still carries around the demons of their chaotic family history.

A deeply moving memoir with its share of humor and vividly colorful figures, Hillbilly Elegy is the story of how upward mobility really feels. And it is an urgent and troubling meditation on the loss of the American dream for a large segment of this country.

  • Shaken

    $19.99

First, he was a beloved college football champion, media sensation, and best-selling author drafted in the first round of the 2010 Draft. Then he had a miracle playoff run with the Denver Broncos before being traded to the New York Jets. After one season he was cut by New York, next signed by the New England Patriots, then let go after training camp. Tim Tebow has achieved big victories and plunged the depths of failure, all while holding firm to his faith. In Shaken he explains why neither the highs nor the lows of his life can define him-and he reveals how you, too, can find an unshakable identity and purpose. In revealing passages, Tebow pulls back the curtain on his life, sharing the vulnerable moments of his career that have shaken him to his core-while also teaching the biblical principles that will enable you to keep the faith, no matter what comes your way.

  • I Hope Its Not Hereditary

    $1.99

They say that truth is stranger than fiction, and the phrase has never been more relevant than in reference to Bob Hartley. His inimitable wit, outspoken demeanor, ambitious attitude, and utter lack of concern with the way others perceive him have created a tidal wave of God’s grace, leaving a wake of tall tales wherever he goes.

As his son, I have been greatly impacted by his many stories. My father has endured a life filled with painful challenges, many of them self-induced. And yet, after all that he’s been through, he remains dedicated to proclaiming the hope he has found in an amazing God.

This is not a biography but rather a collection of stories that illustrate the many life lessons my father has learned-often the hard way. Never one to sweep his mistakes under the rug, explain them away, or blame them on others, my father has embraced his errors, learned from them, and shared them with me, so that I might build my life on the same hope he has found and fought for.

My aim in writing this book has been to capture the heart of my father’s incredible stories and to share them so that they might impact you in the same way they have impacted me.

  • Now You See Me

    $9.97

The moving story of how a grandmother forgave the men that killed her grandchildren in the Oklahoma City bombing and then reached out to forge lasting relationships with Terry Nichols and extended family members of the convicted bombers.

On April 19, 1995, Kathy Sanders’ life was forever changed when a bomb exploded and destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah building in Oklahoma City, killing her two grandsons Chase and Colton.

For a while after her grandchildren died, Kathy struggled with coping and wondered if the God she’d worshipped all her life even existed. After struggling through bitterness and contemplating suicide, she turned to the Lord and asked what He’d have her do. She was reminded that the scriptures say that we are to forgive our enemies.

Kathy then forged a relationship with Terry Nichols, a man who murdered her grandchildren. Additionally she housed, clothed and cooked for Nichols’ children, mother, sister, wife and ex-wife. What’s more, she demonstrated the same type of warmth to family members of Timothy McVeigh, the second man convicted of orchestrating the bombing.

With photos, interviews, and actual letters exchanged between Kathy and Terry Nichols, NOW YOU SEE ME will tell the story of how she forgave these men, cultivated relationships with their families and how her courageous efforts of forgiveness gave her peace and removed the bitterness from her life.

  • Saints And Non Saints

    $1.00

Most of us know them only from church names and grotesque figures in classic paintings and stained-glass windows. But who were these people dubbed “saints”? What are the facts behind the legends, the real human beings with all the weaknesses common to mankind who somehow made their mark in history as holy men and women?
This book digs into the sense and nonsense in the lives and legends of 15 famous saints, ranging from larger-then-life figures like Augustine to shadowy legends like Nicholas and Valentine. Some were saints in the biblical sense – they knew Christ as their personal Savior – while others were merely religious by human standards. All, however, are fascinating personalities whose careers have profound lessons to teach us.

  • In Every Pew Sits A Broken Heart

    $14.99

Ruth Graham-third daughter of Billy Graham-has discovered through bitter personal experience that God does his best work in the ruins of our lives. As Ruth’s life descended through divorce, depression, and shame; as she bore heartrending parental struggles; and as she faltered trying to make wise choices in the wake of bad ones, she discovered the unending embrace of a faithful, forgiving, and grace-filled God. This book surpasses the testimony of her fascinating story as she brings sharp new insight from the Word of God for all who fear their actions may be beyond forgiveness or their broken circumstances may keep them from being used by God ever again. Through the words of Jeremiah-the weeping prophet-Ruth reveals the God who makes wasted places come to life. The reader grasps the parable of the Prodigal Son as never before as Ruth discloses her own journey through that parable, first as the indignant older brother struggling to understand God’s grace toward her husband’s infidelity, then as the prodigal when her own actions bring deep shame and painful circumstances, and even in her role as the father, running to embrace her own children in the midst of bulimia, drug abuse, and unwed pregnancy. Finally, Ruth includes practical steps in every chapter anyone can take to offer care, support, and hope to the broken people they encounter in their lives and in the pews beside them every Sunday. The broken and those who love them will run with Ruth to the arms of the God they can trust, the Father God who embraces, sustains, and redeems.
